On March 7, 1965, hundreds of civil rights demonstrators were led by John Lewis and Rev. Hosea Williams across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama. The marchers were attacked in an incident that would become known as Bloody Sunday, a pivotal moment in the American civil rights movement.
